What Are Browser Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help the site remember your preferences and understand how you use it.
Cookies Used on FiberTools
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga, _ga_* | Google Analytics | Distinguish unique users, track page views and sessions | 2 years |
| _gid | Google Analytics | Distinguish users | 24 hours |
| _gat | Google Analytics | Throttle request rate | 1 minute |
| Various | Google AdSense (not currently enabled) | Serve and measure advertisements | Not currently set |
| empire_gpc | FiberTools | Preserve the browser's Global Privacy Control opt-out for client-side consent checks | Up to 30 days; deleted when the signal is absent |
Local Storage and Preferences
In addition to cookies, FiberTools uses your browser's localStorage to save preferences like your preferred unit system (yards vs. meters) and dark mode setting. This data never leaves your device and is not shared with anyone.
StitchProof Designer projects are stored in IndexedDB only when you explicitly choose “Save on this device.” This browser-local project storage is not an analytics cookie, does not sync between devices, and is specific to the browser profile where it was saved. Deleting the project in StitchProof or clearing the site's browser data removes it. JSON backup, CSV download, and browser-print or PDF files are separate files on your device and are not controlled by the cookie banner.
A StitchProof purchase recovery key is included only in the local project backup or saved project you choose to keep. It is not an analytics cookie. Payment verification sends the random project reference and recovery key to FiberTools, never the pattern or its metadata. Keep recovery files private; deleting browser data does not remove backups you downloaded or the separate payment records needed to verify a purchase.
Essential vs. Non-Essential Cookies
Functional and privacy preference: All tools work without a required account or analytics cookie. When your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, FiberTools may set the first-party empire_gpc bridge cookie so client-side controls honor that opt-out. It is not used for advertising or cross-site tracking.
Non-essential (analytics & advertising): Google Analytics and, if enabled after approval, AdSense cookies are non-essential. We request your consent before downloading their scripts or allowing their storage. You can withdraw consent at any time through the Privacy choices link in the footer.
Google Consent Mode v2
We use a prior-consent setup with Google Consent Mode v2, which means:
- Before you consent, FiberTools does not download Google Analytics or advertising scripts
- After you consent, full analytics and ad personalization cookies are enabled
- If you decline, the scripts are not loaded and no Google tracking cookies are set by FiberTools
How to Manage Cookies
You can manage cookies in several ways:
- Privacy choices: Use the consent banner when you first visit, or the Privacy choices link in the footer later, to allow or decline non-essential cookies
- Browser settings: Most browsers let you block or delete cookies through their settings menu
- StitchProof projects: Use the in-tool delete control for a saved project, or clear FiberTools site data in your browser. Export a JSON backup first if you want a portable copy
- Google opt-out: Visit Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on
- Ad personalization: Visit Google Ad Settings to manage personalized ads
