Who We Are at FiberTools

FiberTools (“we,” “us,” “our”) operates the website fibertools.app. We provide free, browser-based calculators and tools for knitters, crocheters, weavers, spinners, and embroiderers.

What Data We Collect

Core calculator arithmetic runs in your browser. Measured swatch values and calculated results are not sent to FiberTools by the calculation itself. The Yarn Calculator can also request optional pattern recommendations after a result is shown and you select “Load Ravelry recommendations”; that request sends the selected yarn-weight category, craft, and project-type filter through a FiberTools endpoint to Ravelry, but not the measured swatch values or calculated yardage. The optional paid Planning Pack, StitchProof report exports, and Designer Pattern Preflight are separate services and use only the information described below. Here is what we collect:

Analytics (Google Analytics 4): We use GA4 to understand how people use the site, which pages are visited, how long sessions last, and general geographic region. GA4 uses first-party cookies. We have IP anonymization enabled. No personally identifiable information is collected through analytics.

Advertising (Google AdSense): If and when ads are displayed, Google AdSense may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ad Settings.

Affiliate click measurement: When you follow an Amazon product link, we may send Google Analytics an event containing the page, link placement, content type, merchant, and general product category. The event does not contain calculator inputs or an email address. Amazon receives the normal information involved in visiting its site and handles that information under its own privacy notice.

Optional newsletter: If you choose to subscribe, your email address is transmitted to Beehiiv, our newsletter provider, so it can manage the subscription and send messages. Newsletter signup is optional and is not required to use a FiberTools calculator. Beehiiv retains subscription information according to its service terms and your subscription status; you can unsubscribe using the link in any newsletter.

Designer Pattern Preflight pilot: If you choose this paid manual service, we collect your name, email address, pattern title, terminology, intended skill level, pattern type, optional comments, consent record, payment status, and a customer-controlled Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive share link. FiberTools does not accept a direct upload or place the pattern in a public storage bucket during this pilot. Do not paste pattern text into the comments field.

Fiber Project Planning Pack purchase: Checkout occurs on Stripe. After payment, FiberTools receives the Checkout Session ID in Stripe's return URL and retrieves that session to verify the account, offer, and paid status. A Stripe Checkout Session can include contact or billing details entered at checkout, but FiberTools application code does not use those details to deliver the pack, place them in analytics, or copy them into a FiberTools customer database. Supabase privately stores the product PDF, not a purchaser row.

Local Storage: Some tools save your preferences (such as unit toggle between yards and meters) in your browser's localStorage. This data never leaves your device.

StitchProof Designer workspace: Pattern text, pattern title, designer nickname, version, review date, section labels, notes, corrections, and comparison data are processed in your browser and are not sent to FiberTools servers. StitchProof does not use session recording. It does not persist a project unless you explicitly choose to save it on this device. An opted-in saved project uses browser-local IndexedDB, is specific to that browser profile and device, and is removed if you delete it in StitchProof or clear the relevant browser site data.

StitchProof can create JSON backups, CSV issue files, printer-friendly reports, and PDF output through your browser's print feature. Those files are created on your device. FiberTools does not receive them, but any download folder, printer, cloud-drive destination, browser extension, or other destination you choose may handle them under its own settings. The default report excludes full pattern instructions. Instruction excerpts are included only when you explicitly select that option.

StitchProof report purchase: When you choose to buy or verify access, FiberTools receives a random project reference and recovery key over an encrypted connection. Its private payment records store a hash of that key, Stripe payment references, and payment-processing state, not the key itself, pattern text, project title, nickname, or stitch values. FiberTools sends Stripe only opaque purchase references and checkout configuration; payment details are entered on Stripe. Payment verification may retrieve Stripe billing data, but application code does not copy those billing fields into the StitchProof payment records or analytics. Payment records support purchase recovery and reconciliation; deleting a browser-local project does not delete them.

If Managed Payments checkout is available, preparing a new checkout also sends your selected country code to FiberTools. The private purchase record and Stripe checkout metadata bind that declared country, the market-policy version, and the product tax code to the attempt. The selection is not independently verified and is not saved in your draft, recovery backup, or analytics. Billing addresses are entered on Stripe, not in the workspace, and are not copied into these private payment records.

A recovery backup contains your project and a private purchase recovery key. Keep it private and do not send it to support. Browser-local saving remains optional, and restoring a backup does not upload its pattern contents. An online payment check is required for paid exports; already downloaded files do not need an online check to open. With analytics consent, StitchProof may send fixed event names and only closed aggregate fields such as a selected unsupported-notation category, a fixed parser-rule identifier, or a bounded range for how many rounds were unsupported. It never sends pattern text, instruction excerpts, titles, designer names, notes, correction text, exported files, or calculated stitch values. These events are also suppressed when Global Privacy Control is active.

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

Google Analytics is optional. FiberTools does not download the Google Analytics or advertising scripts until you choose to allow them. If advertising is enabled after AdSense approval, it uses the same consent choice. For full details, see our Cookie Policy. You can manage your cookie preferences at any time through the cookie consent banner or your browser settings.

If advertising is enabled, Google may use cookies to serve and measure ads according to your consent choices. You can opt out of personalized advertising at My Ad Center or the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out portal.

How We Use Your Information

We use the limited data we collect to:

• Understand which tools are most popular so we can improve them
• Monitor site performance and fix errors
• Display relevant advertising to support the free self-service calculator library
• Record fixed, consented interactions with the optional Fiber Project Planning Pack page and checkout action
• Measure fixed, consented StitchProof workflow events without pattern content or calculated stitch values
• Verify and recover StitchProof project purchases without storing their patterns
• Verify payment and privately deliver the optional Fiber Project Planning Pack
• Accept payment for, fulfill, deliver, and support the optional Designer Pattern Preflight

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

Embedded Calculators and Digital Product

Dedicated calculator routes under /embed/ do not load FiberTools analytics, advertising, affiliate tracking, cookie consent, newsletter forms, or saved unit preferences. Calculator inputs and results stay in the embedded page and are not sent to FiberTools analytics.

The Fiber Project Planning Pack page records only fixed page-visit, checkout-click, or launch-interest events after analytics consent. These events do not contain calculator inputs, results, project names, email addresses, or free-form content. If checkout is enabled, Stripe processes the payment information you submit under its own privacy policy. After payment, FiberTools receives the Stripe Checkout Session ID in the return URL, verifies that the session is paid and matches the approved offer, and uses it only to provide the private PDF download. FiberTools does not put the Checkout Session ID or product-file contents into analytics events.

StitchProof Designer workspace inputs, corrections, comparisons, and reports remain in the browser. Browser-local saving is off until you choose it, and you can delete the saved project or export a JSON backup. Browser print, CSV, and JSON exports do not upload those contents to FiberTools. Optional paid report access uses the separate payment-verification flow described above. New purchases remain unavailable unless the checkout readiness checks pass; an existing purchase is verified independently of whether new sales are open.

Third-Party Services We Use

We use the following third-party services:

• Google Analytics 4, website analytics (Google Privacy Policy)
• Google AdSense, configured for advertising but not currently enabled (How Google uses cookies in advertising)
• Ravelry, optional pattern recommendations loaded only after you select the recommendation button in the Yarn Calculator. FiberTools sends the selected yarn-weight category, craft, and project-type filter through its server endpoint; measured swatch values and calculated yarn amounts are not included. (Ravelry Privacy Policy)
• Vercel, hosting and CDN (Vercel Privacy Policy)
• Amazon Associates, affiliate product links. We may earn a small commission when you purchase through our links. This does not affect the price you pay. (Amazon Privacy Notice)
• Stripe, payment processing for the optional Fiber Project Planning Pack and Designer Pattern Preflight. For the Planning Pack, FiberTools uses the returned Checkout Session ID and the offer and payment fields in the retrieved session to verify delivery; it does not use session contact or billing details for analytics or a FiberTools customer database. For Designer Pattern Preflight, FiberTools sends Stripe the internal submission ID and customer email needed for checkout, but not the pattern link, pattern content, comments, or report findings.
• Supabase, private object storage for the Planning Pack PDF and private database storage for Designer Pattern Preflight submission details and payment status. The Planning Pack object is read server-side only after payment verification; its bucket is not public. Direct anonymous and signed-in browser access to the Designer Pattern Preflight tables is disabled.

Your Data Privacy Rights

GDPR (EU/EEA/UK users): You have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data. You may also object to or restrict processing. Since we collect minimal data, most of these rights are satisfied by default. Contact us if you have questions.

Children's Privacy Protection

FiberTools is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

Data Retention and Storage

Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics settings (14 months). FiberTools does not maintain a customer-account database. Beehiiv stores information submitted through the optional newsletter form as described above. For Designer Pattern Preflight, the owner manually removes the stored share link, comments, internal notes, and customer submission details no later than 30 days after report delivery, except limited payment or transaction records retained when reasonably necessary for accounting, disputes, fraud prevention, or legal obligations. This deletion is a weekly manual workflow, not an automated retention job.

FiberTools servers do not retain StitchProof pattern projects. If you explicitly save a project in the browser, it remains on that device until you delete it or clear the relevant browser site data. A JSON, CSV, or PDF file—or a printed copy—remains wherever you chose to save or print it; FiberTools cannot delete a copy stored outside the site.

Submitted patterns are never used for AI training, public examples, marketing, or product development without separate written permission. Pattern content, filenames, customer names, email addresses, share links, comments, and report findings are not placed in analytics events.

California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) grants you specific rights regarding your personal information. These rights are effective as of January 1, 2026.

Information We Collect

In the past 12 months we have collected the following categories of personal information:

• Identifiers: IP address, browser type, and device identifiers collected through consented analytics and, if enabled, advertising.
• Internet or network activity: Pages visited, tools used, time on site, referring URLs.
• Commercial information: Aggregate interactions with Amazon product links, such as the page, placement, and general product category.
• Optional product and service information: For a Planning Pack purchase, FiberTools receives the Stripe Checkout Session ID and retrieves the offer and payment fields needed to verify and deliver the PDF; the application does not copy session contact or billing details into a FiberTools customer database. For Designer Pattern Preflight, FiberTools stores the name, email, pattern title and type, share link, consent record, payment status, and fulfillment status described above.
• Inferred data: Interests or preferences that analytics providers and, if enabled, advertising providers may infer from browsing behavior, subject to your consent choices.

Sensitive Personal Information

As of January 1, 2026, California law defines an expanded category of sensitive personal information. FiberTools does not collect sensitive personal information as defined under CPRA, which includes: precise geolocation data, racial or ethnic origin, religious beliefs, union membership, contents of private communications, genetic data, biometric data, health or medical information, sexual orientation, or financial account data.

Data Minimization

We collect only the minimum personal information necessary to operate and improve this service. If advertising is enabled after approval, it may also support the free self-service calculator library. We do not collect personal information beyond what is reasonably necessary and proportionate to the purposes disclosed in this policy.

How We Use Your Information

• If enabled after approval, to display advertising through Google AdSense
• To provide relevant product recommendations through the Amazon Associates program
• To analyze site traffic and improve tool functionality via analytics
• To maintain site security and prevent fraud

We do not sell your personal information as defined under CCPA. If advertising is enabled, disclosures to an advertising partner for targeted advertising may constitute “sharing” under CPRA; you may opt out using the methods below.

Your Rights as a California Resident

• Right to Know: Request disclosure of categories and specific pieces of personal information collected in the past 12 months.
• Right to Delete: Request deletion of personal information we have collected, subject to certain exceptions.
• Right to Correct: Request correction of inaccurate personal information.
• Right to Opt-Out: Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. You may also use a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, which we honor automatically.
• Right to Limit Use of Sensitive Information: Direct us to limit use of sensitive personal information to necessary service functions.
• Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.

Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information

To opt out of sharing for advertising purposes, use a Global Privacy Control (GPC)-enabled browser, or contact us via the Contact page to submit a manual opt-out request.

How to Submit a Request

Contact us via the Contact page. We will respond within 45 days. Identity verification may be required.

Data Retention

Analytics data is retained for 14 months. Server logs are retained for 90 days. FiberTools servers do not retain tool calculation inputs. A StitchProof project persists only when the user explicitly saves it in that browser and remains subject to the user-controlled local deletion described above. Designer Pattern Preflight submission data follows the manual 30-day post-delivery deletion process described above.

Additional U.S. State Privacy Rights

Residents of the following states have privacy rights similar to California's CCPA/CPRA. To exercise your rights, contact us via the Contact page. We will respond within the timeframe required by your state's law.

We honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals from all states that require it. We do not sell personal information to third parties. We do not engage in targeted advertising using sensitive personal information.

Maryland Online Data Privacy Act (MODPA), Effective April 1, 2026

Maryland's Online Data Privacy Act (MODPA, Commercial Law § 14-4604) grants Maryland residents enhanced privacy rights, including:

• Right to Access: Request disclosure of personal data we collect and process.
• Right to Delete: Request deletion of personal data, subject to certain legal exceptions.
• Right to Correct: Request correction of inaccurate personal data.
• Right to Opt-Out: Opt out of the sale, sharing, or targeted advertising of personal data.
• Right to Portability: Request a copy of your personal data in a portable, machine-readable format.
• GPC Honoring: We automatically honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals and treat them as a valid opt-out request.

Response Timeframe: We will respond to MODPA requests within 45 days of receipt. If verification is required, the clock restarts after we receive sufficient information. You may contact us via the Contact page.

Sensitive Data: MODPA bans the sale of sensitive personal information. FiberTools does not collect or process sensitive personal information as defined under MODPA.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance.
